At 8 years old William J. Bausch III found
his passion … drums.
He loved everything about them, especially the kind of sound
they created. Drums became a part of his heart and soul. As Bausch
got older he had responsibilities that took up a lot of his time,
like raising a family and working full time as a manager; but
he never lost sight of his passion.
One night Bausch had a vivid dream
of creating
his own unique drum.
In his dream, he created a drum that not only had a unique look;
but also produced a one-of-a-kind sound. He worked after hours
trying to build this creation out of his vision for a better sounding
instrument. It took nine tries until he finally got it right!
The determination to make this dream come alive, along with the
help of his two business partners, Jason Kincaid and Rick Faryniak,
enabled Bausch to get a patent for this unique design. Today his
dream has been brought to life with Stavent Custom Drums.
What makes Stavent Drums different is the way
the drum is created ...
... using the "stave design." Most mass-produced drums
are primarily made from a two- or three- ply design of wood, that
is then bent and shaped with glue. They usually have a bottom
head, where a hole is drilled on the side to allow for the energy
to expel when the head is struck. The thing that most distorts
the sound from a drum is the amount of glue used in this process.
With Stavent Custom Drums every piece of wood is angled at a
certain degree which creates "air compression vents".
This allows sound/compression to filter out through specific points
inside the drum, not just channeled to an air vent hole like the
traditional drum. This produces a "true sound" with
the shell being constructed of up to 1" thick pure wood.
